Technical Project Manager

Location: New York City, NY

Department: Adaptive Instruction

Type: Full Time

Min. Experience: Mid Level

Knewton is poised to revolutionize the practice of education with the world's most powerful adaptive learning engine. We are a startup rich in eclectic personalities, are ridiculously dedicated, and are unified around a passion for democratizing education. We have also been recognized as a Technology Pioneer at the World Economic Forum in Davos and one of the top 25 best places to work by Crain’s New York Business.

We’re looking for a Technical Project Manager for our Content Curation team. We are seeking leadership in refining our curation processes and, ultimately, our community management practices as we support users in teaching, learning, and contributing content to the product.

There are variations in how systems ingest and publish content online. We’ll need a project manager who can help us set the standards on how our content is formatted and subsequently ingested.  Until we have a robust suite of content ingestion tools, we need someone who can help us create and manage our content curation work flows, as well as help us manage projects that span multiple teams.

You will be responsible for helping our team progress at an efficient yet thoughtful pace, ensuring that roadblocks and bottlenecks are addressed and remedied.

Primary Tasks

  • Coordinate short-term and long-term forecasts for content curation tasks, allowing the team to see when and where the gaps are
  • Work with internal staff — including Content Curators, Adaptive Instruction Analysts, and Engineers — to corral necessary information into transparent and actionable formats
  • Research third-party vendor solutions to various and sundry content curation problems, including data entry, standards alignment, and LaTeX rendering
  • Develop relationships with vendors and maintain any documentation needed for external workers to perform these tasks accurately and at scale

Requirements

  • Understanding of how content and the associated metadata are stored and structured on websites and the ability to ingest this content in an efficient and standardized way
  • Strong organizational skills and capacity to communicate clearly to different functional groups
  • Extremely scrupulous attention to detail and ability to instill the same ethic in others
  • Exceptional logical skills
  • Exceptional written skills in English
  • REQUIRED: Previous working experience with software development teams

Qualifications

  • 2 years of cross-organizational project management experience at the intersection of content and technology
  • Spreadsheet proficiency a must; information architecture, systems engineering, industrial operations, or engineering experience an enormous plus

Perks include huge monitors, the latest macs, a kitchen filled with your favorite treats, flexible hours, frequent guest speakers, excellent health benefits, equity and a chance to do meaningful, cutting edge work in a dynamic environment.
