At Knewton, we use small, cross-functional teams to solve difficult challenges with real-world implications. Teams comprise a range of technical, mathematical, educational, and design specialists unified by a passion for improving education.

Knewton was founded in 2008 and has offices in New York City and London. Investments top $105M from well-known angel investors plus Accel, Bessemer, First Round Capital, Firstmark, Founders Fund, GSV, and Atomico.

Are you a solid engineer who can’t bear to be left out of visual, conceptual, and business conversations? Do you thrive on collaborating with talented people from different disciplines? We would love to talk with you!

The Job:

You’ll build new features using Knewton’s evolving front end technology stack. Our front end is divided between the browser and the “front end’s back end” (a lightweight templating layer we call our Frackend). This division allows us to choose which parts of our app get rendered on the server, and which in the browser. Frackend is a Node.js app which aggregates data from various RESTful services.

We also use the following libraries:

  • LinkedIn’s Dust for templating
  • SCSS for stylesheets
  • Q’s deferred objects for asynchronous code
  • Lo-Dash for nice coding patterns
  • jQuery for DOM manipulation, event handling, and XHR
  • Grunt for development and deployment tasks
  • Bower for dependency management

About You:

At a minimum, you should have experience building web apps of which you are proud. More specifically, you’d better be adept at the following:

  • structure and semantics of documents
  • client-side and server-side templating
  • user interfaces which function as elegant systems
  • asynchronous javascript
  • transitions and other advanced features of CSS3
  • interaction with RESTful services

Benefits include Macs with huge monitors, a kitchen filled with your favorite treats, flexible hours, frequent guest speakers, company-sponsored training and conferences, excellent health benefits, equity, and a chance to do meaningful, cutting-edge work.
