You will join the team building our ability to deliver our enterprise technology directly into the hands of students and teachers--for free. The application enables teachers and publishers to upload instructional content, build and deliver courses, and provide students everywhere the world’s first out-of-the-box plug-and-play adaptive learning environment. Knewton’s Unified Learning History is the home of a student’s educational narrative.  It provides a single place for end-users of Knewton-powered learning applications to maintain a comprehensive profile of their strengths and needs as a learner. The Unified Learning History enables a student to take his/her data across Knewton-powered products to help each product tailor itself to the student base don the entire picture of behavioral trends, learning strategies, and proficiencies over time. We leverage this knowledge to inform our models that in turn serve higher quality recommendations to an individual. This increases the probability of success within a partner’s learning application. This position is to lead the team and guide rapid iterations toward creating this exciting new product.

Engineers must have:

  • A track record of writing high-quality, elegant code
  • Comfort with writing JavaScript, HTML, XHTML, CSS, and XML
  • Strong back-end experience in JVM-based technologies.
  • Ability to write web applications in a full-stack manner (can write the back-end as well as know how to get things to display the way they want in a browser)
  • The potential and desire to rise into positions of technical leadership

Not required but highly desired are:

  • Experience with Identity/SSO protocols such as OAuth.
  • Familiarity with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Unix
  • Experience with open-source technologies
